7 Bizarre Food Combinations with Boba That Will Make You Speechless
Just a little bit too far, don't ya think...?
Tapioca balls — it’s the kinda thing where you either hate it, or just somehow always conveniently forget to remove from your ‘strict diet’. Known more widely as ‘boba’ (which, for some reason if translated from Mandarin, is ‘big breasts’), its first appearance was made in Taiwan in the 1980’s. Accompanying the world-renown milk tea to make what we now know as ‘bubble tea’, its fan-base grew exponentially across the surface of the entire world in the past few years. It’s got so trendy that… well… some would argue that the implementation of boba may have gone just a little too far…
With that, get nauseated enjoy this list I’ve curated of bizarre boba additions to food!

1. Boba Hotpot

Here’s a soft-ball (pun intended) to start off with. Just close your eyes, and don’t imagine the aromatic taste of chicken soup or curry with boba. It’s just a hot dessert… just a nice hot dessert… just a very steamy, warm, tingly, sweet-tasting dessert with sweetened water in Canada. Just like tang yuan, right? Not weird at all… right?
2. Boba Milk Tea Sandwich
Breaded boba with sauce? I mean, there technically are a few desserts out there with bread. I guess I can find some comfort it that before I put it in my mouth. Who knows? It may actually be sweet and tasty when it comes to eating it, even if it may seem a little odd to the ears and eyes at first.
3. Booze + Boba
Okay, okay. That’s still… I mean, that’s okay I guess? Maybe tone down the sweetness a little bit from the tapioca balls, and just have a chewy martini? Served in many cocktail bars across the world, it’s one of those things that you’ll probably try just for the heck of it, but never again put in your mouth. Weird, but if someone paid me five bucks for it, I’d still have a mug. To my dear colleagues, I await your challenge!
4. Fried Omelette + Boba
Oh Japan… I used to think that your food is expensive for good reason, but now… Frying omelette with pearls? Sugary sweet, mixed with oily savoury? Worse yet, make it chewy so you’re forced yourself to break it down in your mouth before swallowing the abomination? Talk about an antonym to food porn…

Forgive me… I’m so sorry for making you belch. No, your eyes do not deceive you. That is a sunny-side up accompanying Indomie noodles and… yeah, tapioca balls in white cream of unknown origin. I’m not even sure which is worse — the fact that there’s boba there, or the unexplained presence of white cream from places I don’t even want to think about…
6. Boba Crab
This one hit news when it came out. They pride themselves in cooking crab, with a ‘modern twist’. Serving things like Oreo Cheese Crab and Boba Crab, they seem to just twist me in all the wrong places. Something so savoury and expensive, made into an absolute nightmare.
7. Tapioca Pizza

Seriously, which pit in hell did these ideas come from? “Tapioca, Sweet pizza dough, Monterey Jack cheese, Mozzarella cheese, topped with a brown sugar and condensed milk glaze!” Keep giving me fancy descriptions, but I’d still take a Broccoli Pizza any day!
